HALIFAX - Phillip W. Hayes, 84, of Matamoras Road, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2012) at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.

A native of Bradford, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bertha Munn Hayes.
He was a graduate of Bradford High School and Lebanon Valley College. He retired after 30 years teaching in the Bradford Area School District.
Phillip was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in the 27th Statistical Unit in Fort Richardson, Alaska.
He was a life member of the NRA, American Legion #326, McKean County Rifle Club, Bradford Area Alumni Association, Lebanon Valley College Alumni Association, and the PSEA.
Surviving are a son, Geoffrey of Halifax; a daughter, Autumn Miller-Kembring of Halifax; grandchildren, Craig Miller, Kyle Miller, Rachel Miller, all of Halifax, and Roberta Green of Bradford; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo Hayes of Lewis Run; and a sister, Elsie Robertson of Bradford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sweigard Hayes; infant son, Rahn; and a brother, Charles.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Millersburg, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Longs Cemetery in Halifax.
