SMETHPORT - Rebecca Louise Gustafson Smith, 63, of Smethport, passed away with her family by her side Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2015) at Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 18, 1951, in Bradford. She was the daughter of Anne E. Gustafson-Leffler and the late John Gustafson. She was married to Carl J. Smith Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Smethport Area High School Class of 1969. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Smethport VFW 2497 Auxiliary and Crosby Legion Post 976 Auxiliary. Mrs. Smith was employed at Bradford Laundry for several years as a bookkeeper.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed crafts of all sorts, camping, gaming, billiards, bowling, cards and visiting the Outer Banks.
In addition to her husband, Carl, she is survived by her mother, Anne Gustafson-Leffler and three children, John (Elaine) McGowan of Newport News, Va., Jeff (Cindy) McGowan of Lancaster, Ohio, and Janel McGowan of Cadiz, Ohio; siblings James (Terry) Gustafson of Endicott, N.Y., and Carol (Bert) Clark of Big Shanty; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers Thomas and John Gustafson, and her sister Janet Colden.
At the family's request there will be no visitation; services will be private. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made in Becky's name to the American Legion Post 976 Ladies Auxiliary in Crosby or VFW Post 2497 Ladies Auxiliary in Smethport.
