Ronald D. VanScoter, 65, of Bradford, passed away on Friday (Sept. 7, 2018) at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, N.Y.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1953, in Olean, a son of the late Stanley "Mose" and Orpha "Rose" Strait VanScoter.
He was a 1971 graduate of the Otto Eldred High School. After graduation Mr. VanScoter attended the Olean Business Institute, Olean.
On July 14, 1973, in the Duke Center Methodist Church, he married Deborah A. Rankin, who survives.
He was a life member of the Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department. He loved spending time with his kids and his grandchildren at his cottage on Chautauqua Lake where he also enjoyed going for boat rides and sitting around the campfire. He also loved talking and sharing stories with his friends.
After attending the Olean Business Institute Mr. VanScoter worked as a civilian for the Air Force at the Pentagon for two years. He then moved back to Bradford and worked for McCourt Label in Bradford for many years. In 1987 he opened the Paper Factory, Olean, N.Y., with his wife.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Deborah VanScoter of Bradford, he is also survived by one son, Andrew VanScoter, and one daughter, Amy (Kyley) Hogue, all of Bradford; two brothers, Thomas (Cherrie) VanScoter of Eldred and Robert VanScoter of Portville; five grandchildren, Mia VanScoter, Milania VanScoter, Kiara Hogue, Kyler Hogue and Samantha Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed spending time with his "grand dog," Mickey.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Louis "Bud" VanScoter and Franklin "Gene" VanScoter; two sisters, Shirley Clark and Dolly VanScoter; one brother-in-law, William Clark; and one sister-in-law, Judy VanScoter.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Mascho Funeral Home Inc. with a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ricky Price, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
