EMPORIUM - Russell J. "Butch" Andrews, 73, of 174 Valley View Road, Emporium, passed away Wednesday morning (Aug. 1, 2012) at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Born April 20, 1939, in Hughesville, he was a son of Russell and Ruby Brown Andrews. On Sept. 22, 1960, he married S. Jane Fackender Andrews, who survives.
Mr. Andrews graduated from Cameron County High School in the class of 1957 and then served with the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1963. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2004, where he was a foreman for many years.
He was president of the Russell Hollow Hunting Club. He was the cook for many years at the Drum and Henry Fishing Derby, and helped extensively with many of the programs put on by Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities, especially the programs held at Andrews farm. He was a member of the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, National Rifle Association and Quality Deer Management. He was also a member of the VFW in Emporium. Mr. Andrews was an avid hunter and enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors. He mostly enjoyed spending his time outdoors in the Salt Run area where he grew up on the family farm and learned to hunt and fish.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Shelley (Peter) Slottje and Heather (Brian) Kite, both Emporium; one son, Randy Andrews of Emporium; five grandchildren, Amanda Dempsey, Daniel Slottje, Nicholas and Amber Thwing and Blake Andrews; one great-grandson, Hunter Dempsey; one sister, Donna (Ardell) Loncosky of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; and one brother, Ronald (Kelly) Andrews of Emporium.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Portage Township Cemetery, Emporium.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Barnett Funeral Home Inc.
