KANE - Russell A. "Russ" Counts, 40, of 61 Pfender Lane, near Kane, died Monday morning (May 2, 2016) when he sailed away working at a job site in Mississippi.
Born April 9, 1976, in Kane, he is the son of Russell E. and RoseAnn Rolick Counts.
A graduate of Kane Area High School, Russ was a boilermaker for 18 years for Local 154, Miller Mechanical, based in Glens Falls, N.Y., for whom he traveled from Maine to Texas and beyond. He also had been a logger for many years, working for Ryan Lundeen when he was home.
Mr. Counts was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane, the Kane Lions Club, VFW Post #1132 in Kane, and the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club and Wilcox American Legion.
Working and playing hard, Russ made the best of all seasons. He loved spending summers boating, winters skiing and snowmobiling, spring and fall road trips, four-wheeling, hunting, and fishing, and playing the button box with the family polka band.
He especially enjoyed being at home snuggled-up with his "gypsy girl."
Russ accomplished much in his short time: Whitewater rafting, zip-lining, landing in the ocean and a lake in a seaplane, adventures to the islands and the Keys and Jimmy Buffett concerts. He was one of a kind with a heart of gold.
Surviving, in addition to his parents of Kane, are a sister, Heather (Kevin) Ritts of Lantz Corners; his girlfriend of 14 years, Theresa "Teri" Biel, with whom he lived; and nephews Kevin Long and Mick Ritts. Many special cousins, aunts, uncles and friends also survive.
Celebrate his life by raising a glass of your favorite drink in his memory, or do an unexpected act of kindness in his name.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc. in Kane, where a vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Callistus Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow privately in Gibbs Hill Cemetery, Ludlow.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Callistus Catholic Church, 342 Chase St., or to Gibbs Hill Cemetery, 1109 Wetmore Road, both Kane, PA 16735.
