KANE - Ruth M. Anderson, 83, of 127 Pine Ave., Kane, died Saturday evening (Oct. 24, 2015) at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Jan. 9, 1932, in the Kane Summit Hospital, she was the daughter of Lloyd R. and Anna E. Gustafson McElwain. On Dec. 30, 1953, in Kane, she married James D. Anderson, who died Sept. 25, 1990.
Mrs. Anderson was a graduate of the Kingsport, Tennessee High School and attended Alfred State College. As a youth, she lived in James City, Columbia, S.C. and Kingsport, Tenn. The wife of a career soldier, she travelled all over the world, for several years moving every 9 months. Ruth had worked at Stackpole Corp. in Kane and was a nurse's aide at The Lutheran Home at Kane for 16 years before her retirement.
She was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, both in Kane, was a Girl Scout in her youth, a Cub Scout Den Leader, and the Judge of Elections for several years in Kane's Third Ward.
Surviving are two sons, David (Jacqueline) Anderson of Amity and Timothy Anderson of Kane; her twin sister Sarah Jane "Sally" Anderson of Loogootee, Ind.; grandson Brian Anderson, plus several nieces and nephews, including Holly Cecil.
Friends may call on Thursday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc. in Kane from noon until 2 p.m., at which time a service will be held there with the Rev. Bill Waterman, pastor of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery at a later date.
