IOWA CITY, Iowa - Sharon Engstrom Scheib, 70, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday (March 15, 2015), following a two-year battle with lung cancer.

Sharon was raised in Smethport, Pa., the daughter and only child of Everett and Evelyn Carter Engstom, where she was valedictorian of her high school class. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts in English at Allegheny College. She attended graduate school at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., where she met her future husband, James.
They were married in 1967 in Smethport.
Sharon taught English at Neshaminy School District in Langhorne, Pa., before moving to Iowa.
From 1984 to 2004, she was director of communication for the University of Iowa College of Business. A writing initiative scholarship has been created in her name.
Survivors include her husband, James of Iowa City; two sons, Christopher (Jennifer) Scheib of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Eric (Sara) Scheib of North Liberty, Iowa; two grandsons, Matthew Scheib and Jacob Scheib; and two cousins: Paul (Sally) Zink of Evanston, Ill. and Janet (William) Ross of Lititz, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the Sharon Scheib Professional Writing Initiative via the University of Iowa Foundation.
