Sonya Y. Hale, 86, formerly of 79 Jefferson St., passed away Friday (Oct. 4, 2013) at Chapel Ridge.

Born Dec. 28, 1926 in Coneville, she was a daughter of James and Mary Rapchick Vinnick.
On July 12, 1947, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford, she married Howard D. Hale Jr., who died Aug. 11, 1981.
Mrs. Hale was a 1945 graduate of Bradford High School and served on the Alumni Committee. She volunteered for the Women's Auxiliary at the Bradford Ecumenical Home, Chapel Ridge and the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1940 where she served as a Deacon and on the board of the Presbyterian Women.
Surviving is a daughter, Donna (Robert) Burdick of Smethport; two sons, David (Denise) Hale of Seven Lakes, N.C., and Michael L. Hale of Bradford; two grandchildren, Jill (Branden) Labecki of Lower Burrell, and Pamela (Kurt) Ferman of Smethport; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Labecki and Jonah Labecki; one niece, Nancy (Matt) McBride Dyer of Augusta, Maine; and one grandnephew, Jon (Tara) Dyer.
At the family's request there will be no visitation. Friends will be invited to attend a memorial service at a later date and time to be announced. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
