JOHNSONBURG - Thomas Alan Abplanalp, 67, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of Johnsonburg, died peacefully Wednesday night (June 29, 2016) at the manor, where he had been a resident for the past five years and struggled many years with MS.
Born Jan. 11, 1949, in Ridgway, he was a son of Robert and Margaret McDonald Abplanalp.
He had resided in St. Marys for the past five years. He had lived in Johnsonburg for most of his life and had lived in Shreveport, La., for 10 years.
Mr. Abplanalp graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving as a private in the U.S. Army before receiving a medical discharge in 1970.
He had been employed by various restaurants as a bartender over the years.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Johnsonburg. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo with his friends.
Surviving are a sister, Susan (John) Bauer of Bloomsburg; a half-sister, Barbara (Bernard) Rymarchyk of Syracuse, N.Y.; nieces Stephanie (Mike) Bond, Gretchen Rymarchyk, Jessica (Jeff) Rymarchyk-Read and Stacy Rymarchyk; a nephew, Jeff Bauer; grandnieces: Kendra and Kassie Bond, Carley Bauer and Tala Solomon; and a grandnephew, Jacob Bauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy and a brother Robert Abplanalp Jr.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be conducted at Wardvale Lutheran Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday with the Rev. Stephen Fair, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Johnsonburg, officiating. Burial will be in Wardvale Lutheran Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
