ST. MARYS - Violet R. Haight, 91, of 74 Erie Ave., St. Marys, and formerly of Dagus Mines, passed away Monday (Aug. 6, 2018) at her residence, after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 11, 1927, in East Brady, daughter of the late Henry and Katie Jennins Allshouse.
On Jan. 25, 1946, in Miola, Violet married Amer V. Haight, who preceded her in death on April 10, 2012.
She was a graduate of Summerville High School, Class of 1945, and had been a resident of the area since 1951. Violet was a former employee of Sylvania and was a retired employee of BiLo, retiring in 1993 after 17 years of service.
Violet was a member of the Maria Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, Scrabble, games, and using technology to stay in touch with her loved ones. Violet loved spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. Her memory will live on through the many namesakes in her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Vicky Ann (Vernon) Reed of St. Marys, Deborah J. (Lance) Eastman of Allegany, N.Y., and Linda (John) Fox of St. Marys; three sons, James R. (Annette) Haight of Portland, Ore., Joseph H. (Brenda) Haight of Sylvania, Ga., and Ray C. (Wendy) Haight of Mercer; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and by nine great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Dessie Geer of Brookville; a daughter-in-law, Reba Haight of St. Marys; and by a brother-in-law, Alton Knapp of Knoxdale.
In addition to her husband and parents, Violet was preceded in death by a son, Dennis L. Haight; three grandchildren, Valerie Rose Reed, Marvin Haight, and Shayna Haight; five sisters, Ruth Shoemaker, Clara Geer, Daisy Grubbs, Louise Woodford, and Lottie Knapp; and by two brothers, James and Clarence Allshouse.
Visitation with the family will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday from 2 until 4 p.m., with a funeral service to be held at 4 p.m. Burial will be in the Maria Lutheran Cemetery.
