SMETHPORT - Virginia M. Tanner, 95, of East Smethport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (April 9, 2014) in Lakeview Senior Care and Living Center in Smethport.

She was born July 26, 1918, in Newfane, N.Y., a daughter of Elmer and Donna Andrews. On Oct. 19, 1939, in the East Smethport United Christian Church, she married Richard C. Tanner, who preceded her in death on March 22, 2008.
Mrs. Tanner was a graduate of Newfane High School and was a homemaker, tending to the needs of her family.
Virginia was a member of the East Smethport United Christian Church for more than 80 years.
She is survived by one son, Gilbert C. Tanner of East Smethport; two granddaughters, Brenda Tanner-Leibenguth of Palm Coast, Fla., and Teresa LaFountain of Bloomfield, N.Y.; one grandson, Pete Leibenguth of Palm Coast; three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Angela LaFountain and Felicia Leibenguth; and four great-great grandchildren, Jacob, Lillian, Cora and Kelsi.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Andrews.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the East Smethport United Christian Church, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allen Young, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the East Smethport United Christian Church.
