ST. MARYS - Wallace J. "Rocky" Smith, 76, of 134 Penn Road, St. Marys, died on Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2013) at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1937, in St. Marys, a son of the late Elwood and Margaret Engert Smith. On May 21, 1960, in St. Boniface Church, he married Diana Carrara Smith, who survives.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the area and graduate of Central High School, Class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Ora Jean Barber School and owned and operated Rocky's Barber Shop for many years, retiring in 2009.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, ?shing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of more than 53 years, Diana Carrara Smith, he is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Tom) Gleeson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sherri (Dan) Wortman of St. Marys; two sons, Barry (Sally) Smith of St. Marys and Cory (Abby) Smith of State College; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Eleen Grotzinger of St. Marys.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 337 Center St., St. Marys, at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
A military service will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local charity of choice.
