KANE - William A. Bennett, 81, of 2 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of Russell City, died Tuesday morning (June 30, 2015) at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he resided the past few days.
Born Oct. 9, 1933, in Russell City, he was the son of Ralph H. and Adeline R. Lee Bennett. On July 31, 1965, in Kane, he married Mary Ann Irwin, who died April 28, 2014.
Bill owned and operated the Russell City Store for over 40 years, and was the town's postmaster, retiring in 1994. Earlier, he served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood from 1954 to 1956.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Kane, where he had sung in the choir; belonged to the Kane Senior Center and the Lost Dutchman's Mining Association.
Surviving are three daughters, Lois (Robert) Miller of Panorama City, Calif., Toni (John) Agens of Kane and Amy (Ken) Beers of DeYoung; a brother, Edward Bennett of Kane and a sister, Donna Chubon of Randolph, N.Y. Two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife and parents, by a granddaughter, Heidi Agens and a son, David Maze.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 10 until 11:30 a.m., and may attend a service at noon at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Kumher, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Lynch, retired pastor, co-officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.
Memorial contributions should be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 257; or to the Kane Senior Center, 100 Fraley St., both in Kane, PA 16735.
