CORRY - William E. "Bill" Edgar, 75, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2013) at the home of his son, Bill, in Corry. He had been in ill health for the past year.
Bill was born in Port Allegany on May 23, 1937, a son of Gordon and Signe Erickson Edgar, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Smethport High School, where he played football. He worked for the Market Basket in both Smethport and Ridgway, where he spent most of his life. After 15 years with Market Basket, Bill retired from Keystone Carbon following 30 years of employment there.
Bill was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Ridgway Rifle Club. He was an avid hunter and liked to spend time walking in the woods. He loved his Tuesday mornings with his "Over the Hill Gang" at the Ridgway Rifle Club. In his retirement, Bill spent time with his grandchildren and enjoyed his many friends who would stop to visit him on his front porch on Walnut Street. Bill was a Protestant by faith.
He is survived by his children, William P. (Janelle ) Edgar, Christian R. (Theresa) Edgar, Sue (Randy) Edgar Anderson, Ruth (Phil) Edgar Rooker and Ronald (Lynette) Edgar; and his stepson, John (Kim) Blose. He is also survived by a brother, Ted (Mary) Edgar; two sisters, Anne (Howard) Defibaugh and Kathy Van Nette; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a stepgrandson, Greg Rooker.
There will be no visitation or service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry.
