KANE - William Z. Read, 91, of 6742 Route 321, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2016) in The Lutheran Home at Kane.

Born Sept. 26, 1924, in Brookville, he was a son of Luther Victor and Mabel Johns Read. On May 2, 1953, in Kane, he married the former Janie Gerhart, who survives.
A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Read was a veteran of World War II and had been employed at Stackpole in St. Marys for more than 30 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kane.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Brenda (Walter) Seth of Kane and Anita (John) Pretak of Wilcox; two sons, Duane Read of Sutton, W.Va., and Brian Read of Kane; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Read was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home Inc., 103 South Fraley St., where funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Pflieger, chaplin at The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.
