OLEAN, N.Y. - Robert J. Ost of East River Road passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (April 8, 2014) in his home.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born June 9, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Robert G. and Adeline Hove Ost. On Oct. 25, 1975, in Gettysburg, Pa., he married Patricia A. French, who predeceased him Jan. 26, 2010.
Mr. Ost was a graduate of Cleveland Hill High School in Buffalo and then served with the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1961. After moving from Buffalo, he resided and worked in Jamestown. He moved to Portville, then to Olean shortly after marriage and worked for the former Curtis Industries as a mechanical parts salesman until his retirement. From September 2006 to the present, he worked for Walmart in Bradford, Pa., in the grocery department.
He was an avid bowler for many years and also enjoyed golfing and fishing. He liked to collect boating and fishing memorabilia. In the last several years, after his wife's passing, he enjoyed the company of his dear friend, Diane Peasley of Olean. Together they enjoyed some traveling and also caring for all of their combined house pets, including three dogs and six cats. Diane affectionately referred to him by the formal-sounding nickname of "Jeffery VonOston."
Surviving are one daughter, Dottie D. (James R. Breads) Ost of Westfield; one granddaughter, Ariel Breads; two sisters, Nancy (Tom McPheeters) Ost of Albany and Hillary Ferrara of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. May 3 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
