SHINGLEHOUSE - Albert W. Olmstead Sr., 82, of Shinglehouse, died Friday (April 11, 2014) at his home in Shinglehouse surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Shinglehouse, a son of Nathaniel and Zella Smith Olmstead. On Nov. 25, 1950, he married Stella G. "Jerri" Phillips, who survives.
In his early years, he was a gas well driller and water well driller. For most of Al's life, he was a heavy equipment operator or welder for various pipeline contractors, retiring in 1992. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed creating unique projects in his workshop. His true passion in life was his family and grand-babies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Albert W. "Skeeter" (Gretta) Olmstead Jr. of Shinglehouse and Dewey Olmstead of Port Allegany; two daughters, Beverly (Steven) Evens of Port Allegany and Donna (Denny) O'Rourke of Smethport; 11 grandchildren, Joann Dunn, Mark Olmstead, Misty Ingram, Kristy Young, Brian Olmstead, Hunter Olmstead, Rhonda Pantuso, Shannon Abbott, Nathaniel Evens, Jennie Selfridge and Chelsie Taylor; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Llewellyn, Leland, Richard, Cecil and Ike Olmstead; and two sisters, Zelma Mitchell and Eva Cole.
Following with Mr. Olmstead's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A memorial may be held at a later date.
Memorials contributions may be made in Mr. Olmstead's name to the Shinglehouse Fire Department, Ambulance; or library.
