Harold L. "Ben" Maley, 85, of 575 Parkside Drive, Limestone, N.Y., passed away Sunday (July 6, 2014) at Absolute at Salamanca LLC, Salamanca, N.Y.
Harold was born in Butler on Oct. 9, 1928, a son of the late Edna Boyle and Albert Maley. On July 25, 1953, in Bradford, he married Mary Ann Yohe Maley, who died on Sept. 12, 2009.
He graduated high school in Chicora. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. After the service, he came to Bradford and worked for Birdwell Oil Services for 19 years; during those years he worked at the Nevada Test Site. He returned to Limestone in 1969 and started the H.L. Maley Fabricating and Welding Shop.
Mr. Maley was a life member of the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, member of the American Legion in Limestone, and the Limestone Sportsman's Club.
Surviving are five sons, Harold "Bub" (Lisa) Maley of York, Greg (Char) Maley of Limestone, Dennis (Leasa) Maley of Limestone, Joe (Tracy) Maley of Limestone and Steven "Beaver" (Linda) Maley of Bradford; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Susan E. Higgins; a grandson, Jeffrey Craig Higgins; four sisters, Louise Adams, Agnes Bourdigus, Marguerite "Dete" Zavilla and Esther Montague; and two brothers, Paul Maley and Donald Maley.
Friends may call in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 372 East Main St., on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Patrick Melfi officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Limestone.
