Raymond P. Austin, 83, of 65 Interstate Parkway, Bradford, passed away Saturday (Dec. 22, 2012) peacefully at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving children.

Born March 14, 1929, in Bradford, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Hazel May Crandall Austin. On July 16, 1955, in Bradford, he married Shirley I. Sheffield Austin, who survives.
He was a 1947 graduate of Bradford High School and later furthered his education in the late 1970's at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
From 1947 to 1949 he worked as an apprentice at Bovaird and Seyfang. Then in 1949, he and his father formed a partnership and began Austin Pattern Works. He was still owner at the time of his death.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church, where he volunteered with the youth group, was a member of the Couples Club, and the Silver Link Society, where he held various offices. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross Meals on Wheels Program for more than 40 years, and was a member of the Toastmaster's Club.
In addition to his wife Shirley of 57 years, he is survived by a daughter, Cherie (Robert) James of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Mark (Susan) Austin of Bradford; six grandchildren, Ashley (Trevor) Horsley of Olean, N.Y., Mark Austin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Michael Austin of Bradford, Alex James of Virginia Beach, Matthew Austin of Bradford and Andrew James of Virginia Beach; and three great-grandchildren, Riley Horsley, Evelyn Austin and Rex Horsley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Austin.
At the family's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced in the spring. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Machias, N.Y.
