KANE - Doris E. Swanson, 89, formerly of the JoJo Road, passed away Tuesday (April 30, 2013) at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided.
Born Feb. 10, 1924, at Lantz Corners, she was a daughter of Martin and Mary Gustafson Wahlberg. On March 6, 1947, in Kane, she married Eugene L. Swanson, who preceded her in death.
A graduate of the Kane High School Class of 1941, Mrs. Swanson worked for the Selective Services (Draft Board) during World War II. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the former Bentz Furniture for 25 years and had later been employed at the former Kane True Value.
As a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, she was in the senior choir and served as accompanist for the junior choir. She also was on the worship and music committees and was a member of the Rebekah Circle.
For 25 years, she was a member and treasurer for the Mountain Grange #1307 and she also served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence (Susan) Swanson of James City; a daughter, Eve (John) Avenali of Kane; seven grandsons, Daniel Swanson, Dennis Swanson, Steven Swanson, Jeremy Swanson, Eric Swanson, Jesse Swanson and Jake Avenali; four granddaughters, Julie Lyon, Sherrie Shay, Bonnie Avenali and Katie Smith; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents; by a son, Edward Swanson; and two brothers, Carl Wahlberg and Neil Wahlberg.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Waterman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Mount Tabor Cemetery.
