Joseph Frey

ST. MARYS - Joseph R. Frey, 81, of 1135 S. Michael Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2015) at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born on May 28, 1933, a son of the late Albert and Julia Breindel Frey.
On Sept. 15, 1956 in Queen of the World Church, he married Delores "Toots" Samick Frey, who survives.
Mr. Frey was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1951. He was a member of Queen of the World Church where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered his time. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was discharged from the Army in 1953, and then went to work at Sylvania until 1957. He then retired from Clarion Sintered Metals in 1998 after many years of service, and had belonged to many professional organizations over the years.
He was very active in the Cursillo Movement and had been part of the organization since 1971. He retired from the Ridgway Fire Department after more than 33 years of service and was also a member of the American Legion. He also volunteered for Hospice for Veterans, the Christian Food Bank and the Elk County Catholic School System. He enjoyed square dancing and making balloon animals. Joe's pride and joy was his motorhome, he greatly enjoyed traveling and had been to all 50 states. He had also traveled the world with his wife, and together they toured many countries. He was extremely proud of his family and his grandchildren, and loved spending time with them.
In addition to his wife of more than 58 years, Delores "Toots" Samick Frey, he is survived by three daughters, Linda (David) Thompson of Bradford, Julie (Steven) Delage in Brazil and Melanie Frey of Erie; two sons, Bradley Frey of Mason, Ohio, and Andrew (Robin) Frey of Longs, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Eric, Jennifer, Lauren, Jeff, Jason, Matthew and Megan; and nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Ann Gregory, Edna Crawford and Rita Frey, all of St. Marys, and Sister Joachim, OSB, of Erie; one brother, John "Jack" (Therese) Frey of Richmond, Va.; sisters-in-law, Betty Frey and Ruth Frey, both of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Frey on September 9, 2003; two brothers, Norbert Frey and Mark Frey; and by a brother in infancy, Raymond Frey.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of the World Church, Queens Road, St. Marys, with the Rev. Richard Allen, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the World Church or Elk County Catholic School System.
