ELDRED - Marcheta L. Barnaby, 87, formerly of Bennett Street, passed away on Thursday (April 9, 2015) at her home at Chapel Ridge, Bradford, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1927, in Bradford, she was a daughter of Prosper Albert and Bernice Knight Strotman. On Jan. 19, 1948, in Maryland, she married James Lidstone, who passed away on Dec. 9, 1990. On May 29, 1993, in Eldred she married J. Llewelyn Barnaby who passed away on March 26, 2010.
Marcheta's family moved to Philadelphia in 1940 due to her father being stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Base. After graduating from high school in 1945, she attended business college in Philadelphia. She had been employed for many years as a loan officer and later became assistant manager at the Southeast National Bank (Wells Fargo) in Philadelphia. At that time Marcheta was also very active with her children's sports, scouting and school activities. In 1988 she and her husband moved to Prentisvale where she resided until moving to Eldred in 1993 after her husband's death.
Marcheta was a member of the Eldred United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and had attended several Bible Study groups in the area. She was also a member of the Keystone Chapter No. 2 Order of the Eastern Star of Duke Center. She loved the Lord and her family and friends. She enjoyed reading and loved her two special cats, Tuffy and Tiger.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane Saccomandi of Folsom, Pa., and one son, James B. (Rosemarie) Lidstone of the Pocono area, also nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jack (Virginia) Strotman in Tennessee, and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lidstone of Folsom.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Lidstone in 2013, and a brother, Keith Strotman.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, on Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at which time the funeral service will be held with the Rev. Jay Tennies officiating. Burial will follow in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, N.Y.
The family requests that memorials be made to the church or to the SPCA of the donor's choice.
