D. Mary Therieau
1955-2012 BRATTLEBORO D. Mary Therieau, 57 of Vine Street, died peacefully late Saturday night, November 24, 2012 at Pine Heights Nursing Home following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Mary was born in Brattleboro on January 19, 1955 the daughter of George and Sallie (Dixon) Olmstead. She attended Dummerston schools and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School with the class of 1973.
She had worked for Orthopedic Associates of Brattleboro for over 32 years and also worked as a unit secretary on the second floor at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Most recently had been employed as receptionist at Physical Therapy Services of Brattleboro. Previously she had been employed in the lab at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Mary was a long time member/supporter of the BUHS Athletic Booster Club where she served as board secretary and worked every football game in the Colonel's Den as well as many other fall sports. She was also an active member of the BHS/BUHS Alumni Association where she also served on the board of directors.
She enjoyed softball and played in the greater Brattleboro Women's Softball League for many years and also was an accomplished bowler in the Brattleboro Women's League where she competed in several National Women's Tournaments.
Mary was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her delicious pastries and deserts.
Mary loved to travel having fond memories of vacations in Europe, the Caribbean, Florida, and her favorite, the Dominican Republic.
On June 27, 1975 at Community Bible Chapel in Brattleboro she was married to Michael Therieau who survives.
Besides her faithful and devoted husband of 37 years she leaves two daughters, Krystal Gaffney and her husband Keith of Hinsdale, New Hampshire and Kimberly Therieau of West Springfield, Mass, three grandchildren, Brianne, Alexander and Connor all of Hinsdale, her mother Sallie of Dummerston, two brothers, James Olmstead of Newfane and Daniel Olmstead of Marlboro, three sisters, Sallie May of Vernon, Elizabeth Wright of West Chesterfield and Ellen Olmstead of Dummerston. She is also survived by her mother in law Evelyn Therieau of North Port, Florida.
Additionally she is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large host of friends.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. reception will follow the calling hours to be held at the Brattleboro American Legion on Linden Street. Interment in Morningside Cemetery will be private in the spring.
