Eleanor O'Neil Scales Dow McDermott

Eleanor O'Neil Scales Dow McDermott, 96, formally of Bellows Falls, died February 23, 2013 in Waltham, Mass. She was predeceased by her husbands, Asa Scales, Francis Dow, and Thomas McDermott.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Scales and his wife, Sally Buxton Scales of Spring Hill, Florida and her daughter Lorraine Scales Eagan, and the late Edward Eagan of Waltham, Mass. She has six grandchildren, Brian Scales and his wife Amy Scales of Winter Springs, Florida, Karen Scales Bryant and her husband, Wade Bryant, of Lilburn, Georgia. Edward Eagan, Waltham Mass., Richard Eagan, Bellows Falls, Vt., Christopher Eagan, Brighton, Mass. and Colleen Eagan Chartier and her husband Michael Chartier of Waltham, Mass. She has five great-grandchildren, Matthew Scales, Erica Scales, of Florida, Christina Bryant King, and her husband Josh King of Texas, Trey Bryant of Georgia, Michael Chartier of Waltham, Mass.

Eleanor was born in Boston, Mass., daughter of the late John and Jennie (Hanlon) O'Neil, the youngest of five children. She moved to Bellows Falls, in 1936 to live with her brother, the late Joseph O'Neil until her marriage to Asa Scales. Eleanor was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, former member of the Women of the Moose, and St. Charles Parish. She moved to Waltham several years ago to live with her daughter where she enjoyed the companionship of her great-grandson, Michael Chartier.

Memorial Services and burial will be private in Chester, Vermont. Services will be by Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home of Bellows Falls, Vermont.
