Ellery Giles

Ellery George Giles

1924-2013 WINDHAM VT Ellery George Giles, 89 passed away May 21, 2013 at Springfield Hospital. He was born in Londonderry, VT March 9, 1924 the son of Loren and Fannie (McKellip) Giles.

He attended High School in Chester and the Vermont (Agricultural) Technical College in Randolph. Mr. Giles was a Veteran of WWII having served with the United States Army. He was a Rifleman in the 1st Ranger Battallion. He received the Purple heart Award while serving in the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign having been wounded Nov.12, 1943 in Venafro, Italy. He was married to Betty Ayers in 1970.

Mr. Giles worked for the United States Postal Service and served as Postmaster for the town of Wardsboro.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Kidney of Wardsboro, Grandchildren; Erik, Beth, Kristie, Great Grandchildren; Jacob, Regan, Koby and Brooklyn, his Nice and Nephew, Wayne Sweet and Nancy Kyle and Great Nieces& Nephews. He is also survived by his step-children, Robert and Frank Balch, Marlene Lavoile and Step-Grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Donald Giles in 2007.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held in the Windham Center Cemetery at a later date to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post # 16, Townshend c/o Richard Omand 284 Hill Road, Brookline, VT 05345 or the Vermont Chapter, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128 Williston, VT 05495.
