1926 - 2013 BELLOWS FALLS Jack Barber, 86, a lifelong resident of Bellows Falls, died early Wednesday, May 1, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1926, the son of Ralph and Julia (Slattery) Barber. His early education was eight years at St. Charles Parochial School and graduating from Bellows Falls High School, the class of 1944.

Jack served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict as Quarter Master 2nd Class.

He worked at Morton Motors, General Motors, and later worked for Holmes and St. Johnsbury Trucking. He retired from St. Johnsbury Trucking in 1988 as a salesman.

He was a lifetime member, past exalted ruler, and past state president of the Elks, served as a Justice of the Peace, was a member of the American Legion and BFADC.

Jack was a communicant of St. Charles Church where he acted as lector.

In 1953, he married Eleanor Kangas who passed away in 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Judy Chisamore and husband, Mark, and Jayne Barber. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Thomas, Peter, and Molly Chisamore; his sisters, MaryAnn Wilkins, Jane Putnam, and Ginny Rickard, and many nieces and nephews.

His parents and his sister Kay Hughes have already passed away.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, May 2, at FENTON & HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME in Bellows Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls with burial to follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.
