Joan Barry

1925-2013 BRATTLEBORO Joan Bolton Barry, 87, a resident of Ames Hill Road died late Sunday night, June 23, 2013 at the Holton Home on Western Avenue.

Mrs. Barry was born in Saratoga Springs, New York on September 14, 1925 the daughter of Joseph and Dorothea (Dix) Bolton. She was raised and educated in Saratoga Springs later graduating with a degree from the Ohio State University.

She worked most of her career as a medical secretary and for many years was the receptionist for the psychiatric practice of her husband, Dr. Herbert Barry, Jr.

Mrs. Barry was a former resident of Boston eventually moving to Brattleboro to reside at her summer home with her husband on Ames Hill Road. Dr. and Mrs. Barry also wintered in Orleans, Massachusetts for many years.

Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed needlepoint, attending the symphony, gardening, bird watching and spending time with her beloved cat "Pearl."

Survivors include her step-son, Herbert Barry, III of Pittsburgh, PA, her step-daughter, Patricia Baker of Newburyport, MA, and dear friends, Bruce and Alice Chase of Middleboro, MA and their two daughters, Elizabeth Chase and Amy Mucci.

She was predeceased by her brother Gerry Bolton and her husband, Dr. Barry.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 P.M. in King Cemetery in Marlboro where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband. Afterward a reception will be held at the home of Hollie Bowen, 1013 Stark Road.
