John Benson

John E. Benson

1948-2013 John E. Benson, age 65, of Rockingham, Vt., went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2013.

Born on January 11, 1948 in Springfield, Vt., he was the son of the late Ellsworth (Bud) and Margaret (Peg) Benson.

He was a former police officer, an EMT for the Doc Dinsmore Ambulance Service, and a long-time fire fighter in Bellows Falls, Vt. He was employed as a COL truck driver for Carroll Cement Company for 25 years, prior to his retirement. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his animals. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, sports, and NASCAR racing.

John is survived by his son, John (Chris) Benson and wife Carol, of Springfield, Vt., his daughters, Stacie Merritt and husband James, of Charlestown, NH, Tonia Welch and husband Gary, of Rockingham, Vt., and Shannon Wardwell, of Springfield, Vt., a brother, Paul R. Benson, Sr. and wife Evelyn, of Andover, Vt., 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one nephew, one niece, three great nephews, and one great niece.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at the Adams Funeral Home, in Chester, Vt., on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. Interment will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire, or the Bellows Falls Fire Department.
