John Lonardo

John M. Lonardo Sr.

1952-2014 BRATTLEBORO John Matthew Lonardo Sr., 61 of Brookwood Drive, Mountain Home Park died unexpectedly Monday morning, March 17, 2014 at his home following a period of declining health. John was born in New York City on July 12, 1952 the son of Anthony and Ida (Finck) Lonardo. He was raised and educated in Flushing, N.Y. and was a graduate of John Bowne High School, Class of 1970. John had been employed as a chef for the past thirteen years for Michele's Restorante in Brattleboro and at its location in Keene. He had also worked at Canal Street Gulf for thirteen years and previously had been employed as a shift manager at the former O.K. Fairbanks and Super Place on Putney Road. Active civically, John coached Small Fry, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Brattleboro as well as junior and senior Pro Basketball for the Brattleboro Recreation Department. He loved working with the youth in the community. Cooking was John's passion with Italian dishes as his specialty. He was also an avid walker and will be remembered for his daily walks down Western Avenue. He enjoyed spectator sports and was a devoted New York Mets and Giants fan. John was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro. On September 4, 1971 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Flushing he was married to Jeanne Driscoll who survives. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 42 years he leaves two sons, John M. Lonardo, Jr. and Michael Lonardo and his wife Jennifer all of Brattleboro; a daughter Michelle Brown and partner Travis Kissell of Vernon; one brother, James Lonardo and wife Robin Hill of Fords, N.J.; a sister, Donna Bracken of Boston; and six grandchildren, John Matthew III, Kelsey, Margaret, Isabella, Caitlin and Carley. Additionally he leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. FUENRAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Brattleboro Small Fry Baseball, c/o Ben Underhill, 91 Western Avenue, Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to the Cardiac Rehab Dept. at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, 17 Belmont Avenue, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
