Kamil Burrows

Kamil J. N. R. Middleton Burrows

BRATTLEBORO This past March, while on a trip to Cameroon, West Africa, with his parents, a bright 3-year-old Marlboro boy, Kamil Jumaane Nashoba Rune Middleton Burrows, was tragically killed by an allergic reaction to medication given at the local hospital to treat an infection. The family was traveling in Cameroon, working part time for Mocha Joe's Coffee Roasting Company on an inspiring direct trade coffee project with local farmers.

They also spent time working on organic farms and visiting and playing music with a former Brattleboro resident, Cameroonian recording artist Georgette Beighle. Kamil had a wonderful time, making many new friends. He especially loved eating fufu and other local foods, playing with goats and chickens, and drumming with Georgette's traditional dance troupe.

We know not the reason for our journey, or how we could loose such a bright young light so soon. Our spirits continue in the circle of life and death and rebirth. Brave. honored. Loved. Held in the light. We come here to teach, to love, to learn, and then we return to our source, to the only true knowing.

Kamil is survived by his parents, Ingrid Burrows and Ade Bayo Middleton of Marlboro; an older brother, Judah Middleton Stone of New Mexico; a sister, Ajah Middleton Stone of Pennsylvania; his grandparents, Andy and Elise Burrows of Guilford; his grandmother, Marie Pendergraph of Los Angeles, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: This Saturday, May 25, 2013, the Brattleboro community will celebrate, honor, and remember the life of this beloved boy. The ceremony will take place at the West Village Meeting House and Garland School, 29 South Street, West Brattleboro, at 3 p.m. All are invited.
