Richard S. Morse

1913-2013 WESTMINSTER, VT Richard S. Morse, 100, the oldest Westminster resident, of Henwood Hill Road died Sunday, December 15th at his home. Mr. Morse was born March 31, 1913 in Keene, NH, the son of James and Mary (Sweeney) Morse. He attended the St. Charles Catholic School in Bellows Falls. Dick had his own refrigeration repair business which he retired from at the age of 85. He also raised chickens for many years and supplied area stores and residence with eggs and vegetables. His passion was gardening and even at the age of 100 he was still out planting and harvesting. lf he wasn't working in his garden he could most likely be found at his wood pile preparing the next year's fire wood. He is predeceased by his first wife Hortence Sherman to whom he was married in 1940 and together raised three children Salle, Richard, and Joanne. On June 10, 1960 in Westminster, VT Richard married Ruth Freihofer with whom he raised three children Ken, Mike, and Diane. He is survived by his wife Ruth Morse of Westminster; his sons Richard Morse of Bellows Falls, Kenneth Morse & wife Bette of Westminster, Michael Morse of Westminster; his daughters Salle Wilson & husband Samuel of Florida, Joanne Morse of Westminster, Diane O'Brien & husband Chip of Westminster; his sister Ruth Martin of Connecticut; and 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers Arthur, Stewart, Edward, and Ralph Morse; his five sisters Elizabeth Ponek, Claire Watkins, Elaine Moore, Ethel Strange, and Olive Morse. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18th at Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, VT, with burial to follow in the Westminster New Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Westminster Cares, P0 Box 312, Westminster, VT 05158.
