1968 - 2016 HOLLAND, MA Alissa Brooke (Breslend) Houle, 48, died February 6, 2016 at home after short illness. She was born January 23, 1968 to John and Jane (Black) Breslend at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She grew up in Bellows Falls VT, Walpole, North Walpole, New London, and Langdon, NH. Her family spent summer vacations at York Beach, ME and those memories remained most vivid throughout her life. Alissa graduated from Fall Mountain Regional High School in 1986 and began working for Basketville in Putney. During that time she had many stories of time spent with her grandmother, Helen Breslend, with whom she lived. She also loved to talk about her many adventures with her best friends, Michelle Seale, Cindy Hamel and Ann Corey. While working for a local greenhouse supplier she met Timothy Houle who worked for another supplier in Connecticut. They spent the next year in a long distance relationship that created a bond that is eternal. On February 14, 1993 Alissa married Tim and they moved to Hatfield, MA. In 1998 they moved to Holland, MA after purchasing their first home. They have two wonderful children, Andrew 14, who wants his mother to be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family, that she always tried to make people feel better, loved animals and rescued many dogs, taught him things that he will use the rest of his life, and supported all of his endeavors no matter how outlandish. Jillian 9, wants everyone to remember her mother for how she put others before herself always, adopted dogs that no one else wanted, always did everything she could to support her family, always taught us to do the right thing, and always made everyone feel loved. Alissa loved dogs and she rescued several senior dogs that may not have had the opportunity to have a loving and nurturing home in the last years of their life. Alissa always had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh and make people laugh. Her devotion to her family was second to none. She spent her whole life ensuring that her family had every opportunity to thrive and succeed. Alissa is survived by her husband, Timothy, her children Andrew and Jillian, father and step-mother, John and Margaret Breslend, siblings, Ashley Tarvit, Christian Breslend, Megan (Breslend) Blaine, Brett Breslend, nephews, James Tarvit, Zachary Tarvit, Nathaniel Tarvit, Duncan Blaine, nieces, Amelia Blaine, Olivia Blaine, aunts and uncle, Robert Breslend, Kathy Kurkul, Jane Murray, several cousins and the light of her eye, Nubble the pug. She is predeceased by her mother, Jane (Black) Breslend. SERVICES: A memorial service will be celebrated at 1p.m. Saturday, February 13th at Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, VT. In lieu of flowers donations to the ASPCA in her memory is requested by her family.
