Obituary Condolences

Andrew E. Gordon 1942-2012 PUTNEY - Andrew E. Gordon, 70, died May 24, 2012, at the Vermont Respite House in Burlington as a result of a rare form of colon cancer. Born on April 19, 1942, in Manchester, N.H., Andy was one of seven children born to Charles and Esther (Gordon) Engvall. He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy, then attended Harvard University and UCLA film school. After receiving his Masters degree from Antioch New England, he spent the next 25 years working as a mental health counselor. After retiring, Andy split his time between San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Star Island, N.H., places he loved and felt deeply connected to. Andy was a people person and was always interested in learning about people and hearing their stories. His many interests included politics, film, and music. He enjoyed studying Spanish, taking walks in the woods, meditating, spending time with friends, or just sitting on a park bench people-watching. He loved children and obtained joy from making them laugh. He was a lover of carpentry projects and a clever inventor. He took great care in everything he did. He was a loving and devoted father. Andy is survived by his daughter, Willow, her partner Kasy Prendergast, his many longtime friends, his remaining siblings, Judith Hunter, Carole Davies, Donald Engvall, David Engvall and many nieces and nephews. Andy spent the few months of his life at the Respite House where he received compassionate care from the loyal and attentive staff. A memorial gathering will be held at the Putney Friends Meeting House on Monday, May 28, at 2 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Andy can make a contribution in his name to the Vermont Respite House
