1957 - 2016 Brattleboro- Andrew R., "Andy" Leclaire, 59, of Mountain View Avenue went to be with his Lord and Savior, in the comfort of his home around noontime on Sunday, August 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with ALS. Andy was born in Brattleboro on August 18, 1957 the son of Richard and Verna (Gilson) Leclaire. From 1960 until 1970 with his family he lived in Downers Grove, IL where he attended elementary school. Upon returning to Brattleboro he attended Brattleboro Junior High School and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1975. He went on to attend Community College of Vermont. He had been employed as an environmental services aide at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for 14 years retiring early due to the progression of his illness. Previously he had worked for Country New Distributors as a driver for eight years.Steadfast in his walk of faith he was a communicant of Saint Michael's Catholic Church and held membership in the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council #917. An avid reader, he once read the entire Bible cover to cover. A quiet, open and unassuming man Andy had a wonderful sense of humor which he kept up until the time of his passing. Andy was a gifted athlete and enjoyed playing baseball and softball. For several years he was active with the Greater Brattleboro Men's Softball League playing for the Brattleboro Family Health Center team. Of his other leisure time activities he enjoyed woodworking and time shared with his family especially his grandchildren. On October 23, 1976 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church he was married to Kathleen Pearson who survives. Besides his faithful and loving wife of almost 40 years he leaves one son, Andrew Leclaire, Jr. of Vernon, one daughter, Angela Rae Healey of Keene, two sisters, Vicki Leclaire of Wallingford and Diana Shepard of Guilford, four grandchildren, Hannah, Chase, Lauren and Everly and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by one sister, Michelle LaRue (2009 one brother Dean Leclaire (2015) and a niece Tara Lyon, (2004). FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church. Committal Rites and burial will be in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 9P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Andy's name may be to Saint Michael's School, 48 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301, or to Team Godfather, a charitable foundation for ALS research, P.O.
