Anna R. Winter Obituary




Anna R. Winter, 89 of Brattleboro, VT passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2017 with her family by her side at Pine Heights of Brattleboro.

She was born in Brattleboro on October 15, 1927; the daughter of the late Sherman G. and Lydia (Grant) Slocum.

Anna was a lifelong area resident and was educated in the local school system. She worked for the Grant Store, Margolins and finally as a waitress at the Putney Restaurant before her retirement, she also did housekeeping. She was passionate about bowling, which she did for many years, until her legs would not allow it anymore. She enjoyed gardening and loved ice cream.

She is predeceased by her husband, whom she married in 1947, Cleon J. Winter, a daughter, Barbara Kogut and son-in-law, Richard Kogut, as well as two grandchildren and other siblings.

She is survived by three sons, John Winter and his wife Doris of Dummerston, Jimmy Winter and his wife Tina of Putney, and Jerry Winter and his wife Susan of Putney; two daughters, Beverly J. Melburn of FL, and Shirley Sprague and her husband Brian of SC; three sisters, Harriet Gue'rin of Springfield, MA, Mary Conklin of CT and Betty Rowell and her husband Dale of VA; a brother, Sonny Slocum of VT; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

SERVICES: Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Locust Ridge Cemetery in Brattleboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Heights of Brattleboro, 187 Oak Grove Ave, Brattleboro, VT 05301. Condolences may be offered at www.kerwesterlund.com
