1923 - 2016 VERNON, VT Antonio Parada, 92, of Pond Road, a resident of Vernon for the past 15 years died peacefully, Tuesday morning, March 15, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Parada was born in Camaguey, Cuba on October 12, 1923 the son of Jos? and Isabella (Caruncho) Parada. He was raised and educated in Cuba later moving to the United States where he became a US citizen. While in Cuba he went to work at the tender age of 15 and later established his own grocery store at age 18. With his family he settled in Bronx, New York and owned and operated several grocery store/Deli markets which he established and successfully ran with his family. He later moved to Santa Monica, CA and was employed by the Rand Corporation where he retired from in 1988. He had also resided in Port St. Lucie, Florida before moving to Vernon to be close to his family. A devout Catholic, he was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Of his leisure time activities he enjoyed gardening, taking long walks, dining out with his wife and time shared with his family especially his grandchildren. In June of 1949 in Bronx, New York he was married to Ana Rodriguez who survives. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 66 years he leaves one daughter, Ana Rawson of Vernon, two grandchildren, Kevin Gannon-Parada of Vernon and Keith Devan Rawson of Burlington, two great grandchildren, Antonio Thomas Gannon Parada and Julio Gannon-Parada and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Antonio who died in childhood, three brothers and two sisters. FUNERAL SERVICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Tyler Cemetery in Vernon. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to VT/NH Visiting Nurse and Hospice, P.O. Box 976, White River Junction, VT 05001.
