1938-2015 BRATTLEBORO Arland R. "Skip" Amidon, 76, of Marlboro Avenue, a lifelong resident of town died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2015 at Pine Heights Nursing Home. Mr. Amidon was born in Brattleboro on Nov. 11, 1938 the son of Averill and Arina (Visser) Amidon. He attended local public schools and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1957. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force entering on January 3, 1958 stationed stateside and abroad in Tripoli, Libya. He was honorably discharged from active service on January 2, 1964. Mr. Amidon was an active member of the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5. He worked his entire career as a licensed master electrician and owned and operated his own business, Amidon Electric. Previously he had been employed at Dompier Electric and Stowell Electric both in Brattleboro. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Brattleboro Country Club. Of his other leisure time activities Skip enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, bowling and softball and played for several years in the Brattleboro Men's League. On July 24, 1993 at the Brattleboro Country Club he was married to Sharon, "Bonnie" LaRose who survives. Previously he was married to Mary Lou Royce. Besides his faithful and devoted wife of 21 years he leaves two sons, Douglas and Robert Amidon both of Vernon; two step-sons, Shane Smith of Cranberry Township, Pa. and Travis Smith of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one sister, Mitzie Salamack of Clifton Park, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a step-son, Shadd Smith. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery.
