Arthur O. Peterson, Jr.

1926 - 2015 CONCORD, N.H. Arthur O. Peterson, Jr. (Pete) of Concord, NH and formerly of Saxtons River and Northfield, VT passed away unexpectedly July 22, 2015 at Concord Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, OH, on May 8, 1926, son of Arthur O. and Alice (Stream) Peterson, Sr. As a young child, he moved to Brooklyn and then to Long Island, NY where he lived until moving to Northfield, VT in 1942. While on Long Island, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 15 and continued serving the Scouts as a Scoutmaster. He attended Northfield High School, however at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marines during WWII. Upon his return, he graduated from Northfield High School. He attended UVM and joined the Army National Guard. In addition, he graduated from Officer Candidate School and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserve. Pete worked at the Northfield Post Office, starting in 1946 for 27 years leaving his post as Assistant Postmaster to become Postmaster in Randolph, and then later in Bellows Falls and retired from the Brattleboro Post Office in 1985. He was actively involved in the United Church in Northfield and Christ's Church in Saxtons River. Pete married Gladys V. Anderson, who was the love of his life, on September 17, 1949 in Northfield, VT. Pete and Gladys were married 65 wonderful years before he lost his bride in January. Pete was totally devoted to his family and together they raised four wonderful children. They moved from Northfield to Saxtons River and later to Pleasant View Retirement in Concord, NH to be closer to their family. He is survived by his loving children, Ann and Peter Bradley of Goffstown, NH, Laura and Blair Jasie of Dennis, MA, David and Tiffany Peterson of Bedford, NH, and Carol LaRose of Whitehall, NY, grandchildren Joshua, Adam, Keith, and Jared Jasie; Justin, Ashley, Bryan, Matthew, Elizabeth, Cecilia, and Thomas Peterson; and Christina and Michael LaRose. He is also survived by his half-brother, Jon and "Cheech" Peterson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Miriam (Peterson Ketcham) Nelson. SERVICES: There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Pete's life on August 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant View Retirement, 227 Pleasant St., Concord, NH. A reception will follow the Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the in memory of Gladys Peterson. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
