Bernard Porter Crosby

Bernard Porter Crosby 1929-2012 BRATTLEBORO Bernard "Bernie" Crosby, 82, of Western Ave .died March 7, 2012 as a result of injuries he sustained after being struck by a car while walking near his home. He was born in Cranford, N.J. on May 10, 1929, the son of Robert and Alice (Perry) Crosby. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro, graduating from Brattleboro High School. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Crosby has been employed as a production welder for Filtrine Mfg., retiring in 1995. He worked for many years at the former Crosby Milling Co. in Brattleboro. He was a member of the American Legion Brattleboro Post #5. He will be remembered for his gentle soul, incredible patience and as a loving family man. He was very athletic and excelled in basketball, softball and table tennis, coached little league baseball and had a passion for his Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed maple sugaring, hunting, fishing and time shared with his family. He looked forward to his daily walks with his dog "Coco". He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine "Rupprecht" Crosby. He leaves two sons, Michael Crosby and his wife Nancy of Dalton, NH and Steven Crosby and his wife Karen of Westford, VT., three daughters, Priscilla Galaske of Brattleboro, VT, Jean Weidman of Middlebury, VT and Mary Lagerberg and her husband Mark of Chesterfield, NH. He leaves 9 grandchildren, Jessica Hoehl, Michael Crosby Jr., Stephen Crosby, Mary Galaske, Kelsey Weidman, Bjorn Galaske, Evan Lagerberg, Brittany Lagerberg, and Ben Blanchard and 4 great grandchildren, Katori Crosby, Sydney Hoehl, Michael Crosby III and Madison Crosby. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Crosby and a sister Catherine Sherman. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wed. at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mr. Crosby's name may be made to St. Michael School, 48 Walnut St., Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to the Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
