Bernard Doyle, Sr.

1920 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Bernard Francis "Bernie" Doyle, Sr., 95, of Crescent Drive, a lifelong resident of town died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, 2015 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Mr. Doyle was born in Brattleboro on Jan. 5, 1920 the son of John and Mary Jane (Dougherty) Doyle. He attended Saint Michael's Parochial School and Saint Michael's High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 19'th Regiment, 24th Infantry stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operation. Mr. Doyle was at Pearl Harbor at the time of the infamous attack on Dec. 7, 1941. Following his honorable discharge from active service he returned home to Brattleboro and went to work at the former Crosby Milling Co. He later was employed at the former Boise Cascade Co. and also worked for several years at the Brattleboro Retreat. He retired in 1987. Mr. Doyle was a life member of the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034, the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5 and held membership in Sportsman's Inc. He was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Of his leisure time activities he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and hiking. On June 7, 1947 at Saint Anthony's Church in East Fairfield, VT he was married to Charlene McLearn who predeceased him in November of 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Mae Frizier of Coventry, CT; two sons, Bernard Doyle, Jr. of Brattleboro and Richard Doyle of Charlestown, TN; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Ronald Doyle, his companion of 30 years, Evelyn "Effie" Sirois, one brother and five sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE: Committal Rites and burial with full military honors will take place in Saint George's Cemetery in Bakersfield, VT in the springtime when the cemetery reopens.
