1924 - 2016 MARLBORO- Bernard T. Greenwood, 91 of Marlboro, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend with his family at his side following a period of declining health. Mr. Greenwood was born at home on the Branch Road (Augur Hole Road) in Marlboro on October 2, 1924 the son of Bernard and Ethel (Ellor) Greenwood. He was a true Vermonter who loved to hunt, and up until a couple of years ago was still splitting his winter wood supply. In his earlier years he was a self- employed logger and later worked as a Union carpenter until his retirement. After retiring, he needed something to fill his time and took up metal detecting. With his daughter Barbara he covered many miles throughout Southern Vermont and in the Fairlee area where Barbara and her husband Wayne have a camp. He is survived by his children, Barbara Blake of Brattleboro, Russell Greenwood of Townshend, Marlene Streeter of Jamaica, and Kimberly Burwell of Harrisonburg, VA. Additionally he leaves five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, two nephews and one niece. He also leaves his two cats that he loved very much. In keeping with his final wishes there are no formal funeral services. A private memorial service for his family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the South Newfane Cemetery Association, 172 Augur Hole Road, South Newfane, VT 05351 in care of Peter Lillienthal, Treasurer.
