1923 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Beverly June "Bev" Mackin, 91, formerly of 42 Melrose Street died peacefully Tuesday night, Feb. 24, 2015 at the Holton Home. Mrs. Mackin was born in Jamaica, VT on Oct. 10, 1923 the daughter of Philip and Jerusha Ann (Bell) Hitchcock. She was raised and educated in Guilford and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1943. Mrs. Mackin worked as a sales associate at the former J.E. Mann's Store where she retired from in 1983. Previously, with her late husband she owned and operated Jim & Bev's Diner on Elliot Street. For many years she also had been employed at the Latches Hotel. She was a member of the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 Auxiliary and served a term as president. Steadfast in her walk of faith Mrs. Mackin was a longtime communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Of her hobbies and interests, she enjoyed making quilts, hooking rugs, jigsaw puzzles, bowling and especially enjoyed children. She was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. On Oct. 22, 1947 in Bellows Falls she was married to James W. Mackin who predeceased her. Survivors include two sons, Michael Mackin and his wife, Betsey of Brattleboro and Timothy Mackin and his wife, Wendi of Erving, MA, one daughter, Eva Laraba of Winchendon, MA, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Raymond and Theren Hitchcock, and three sisters, Louise Ost, Garnet Huether and Marvel Clark. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial in North Cemetery in Vernon will take place later in the springtime when the cemetery reopens. Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m Bev's family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and management at the Holton Home for the wonderful care that she received during her stay at the facility.
