1927 - 2015 WALPOLE, N.H. Charles Dudley "Chick" Miller died peacefully at Maplewood Nursing Home on June 19, 2015 at the age of 87. Chick was born on November 27, 1927 in New York, NY and grew up in Upper Montclair, NJ. He graduated from Williams College in 1949 and worked for the Defense Department for several years. Chick and Chickie were married on December 6, 1952, and moved to Walpole, NH in 1954. He was Vice President of Robertson Paper Company for more than 30 years. Chick was dedicated to serving his community. In addition to his 15 years as a Walpole Selectman, Chick was a member and chairman of the Fall Mountain Regional School Board.He served as the treasurer for the Bridge Memorial Library for 17 years, was on the board and served several terms as president of the Meeting Waters YMCA, was on the Hooper Institute Board for 18 years and the Southwest Community Services Board of Directors. Chick's numerous interests included history, fishing and woodworking, but his life was centered around his family. Chick could often be found on the sidelines of many sporting events or in the audience of music, dance and theatrical performances watching his children and grandchildren.He especially loved to support his wife, Helen, in all her many community activities. His behind the scenes help was integral to the founding of the Walpole Players and Junior Players and the creation of the Helen Miller Theater. Chick is survived by his children: Jeffrey Miller (Diane), Diana Pace (C.T.), Allegra Miller (Bob Rinkema) and Brian Miller (Sharon), eight grandchildren, Sarah, Eliza, Tobey, Heidi and Clara Miller, Kelsey and Hannah Pace and Peter Rinkema, one sister, Marian Castell (George), her two sons, Bill Castell and Greg Castell (Amber) as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Helen C. "Chickie" Miller and his parents, Dudley and Ruth Miller. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful Maplewood community for their compassionate care for Chick during the past three years. SERVICES: A memorial service to celebrate Chick's life will be held on July 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Meeting Waters YMCA (49 The Square Bellows Falls, VT 05101) or the Walpole Players (Ray Boas, PO Box 757, Walpole, NH 03608).
