David George Austin Sr.

1943 - 2015 HINSDALE, N.H. David George Austin Sr. of passed away on May 9, 2015 in Evergreen, CO while visiting friends. David was born on May 10, 1943 in Amesbury, MA to Wallace B. Austin, Sr. and Yvonne Mary Moyette. He grew up in VT and MA. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from Sept. 4, 1962 to Sept. 4, 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of E5. David met his wife of 46 years, Millie (Rounds) Austin at a school dance and they were married at the Townshend Church in Vermont on June 22, 1968. He worked for Raymond S. Roberts as a truck mechanic for 10 years, for the Town of Brattleboro as a highway mechanic for 19 years and later with Lilly Trucking. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and cooking. He especially enjoyed watching The Chew program. David struggled with diabetes for 15 years but was a fighter and tried to keep it under control. His best friend was a PUG named ZEUS who passed away on Nov. 15, 2012. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5 for 37 years. David is survived by his wife and two children, David G. Austin, Jr. of Hinsdale, NH and Janet Austin-Frost of Brattleboro, VT, one grandson, David G. Austin, III, his sisters, Christine George of Chicopee, MA, Terry Austin and Rose Austin of Westfield, MA, brothers, Wallace Austin, Jr. of Westfield, MA and Mitchell Austin of Tampa, FL. He also has several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at the American Legion Post 5 in Brattleboro, Vt on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The JEHH Memorial Foundation, P. O. Box 797, Brattleboro, VT 05302 in the memory of David.
