Dawn (Brooks) McCormick Obituary
Dawn (Brooks) McCormick

1963 - 2015 Dawn (Brooks) McCormick died November 1st, 2015 after being diagnosed with cancer in 2014. Dawn was born at Grace Cottage Hospital on October 25th, 1963, to Barbara (Stacey) Brooks of Dummerston, VT and Norman Brooks of Newfane. She is survived by her children, Justin McAllister, Stephanie McAllister, Joseph McAllister, Jeffrey McCormick, Brian McCormick and Kimberly McCormick. She has two grandsons, Riley Deen and Kaden McAllister. Dawn's family was the center of her world. She loved taking pictures of all of their crazy adventures. You would never know there was anything but health and happiness when looking through her literally hundreds of pictures. She was a sweet, caring person, who put everyone else first, despite her pain and struggles. She was also well known for her beautiful gardens. As soon as the weather allowed, she could be found outside in her gardens, until it grew too dark to see. From the time Dawn was young she had a special connection with children, but her true gift really became apparent when she began working with special needs children. Over the years she changed the lives of many young kids, with her humor, patience and love for her work. For the past 15 years she has worked in the Intensive Service program at the Dummerston School. When she was diagnosed with cancer, one of her greatest concerns was not returning to work to be there for her kids. In honor of her work, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frances Hicks Foundation, c/o Marshall Wheelock, 107 Oak Grove Ave, Brattleboro, VT 05301; in Dawn's name. SERVICES: Services will be held at the Newfane Congregational Chruch at noon on Saturday, November 14th, with a gathering at the Newbrook Firehouse immediately after. The family would like to thank Jack Carroll for being there for Dawn, and accompanying her on the endless doctor and hospital appointments. We would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Backus and the staff at Grace Cottage Hospital who went above and beyond to make us all comfortable!
