1943 - 2016 BRATTLEBORO, VT Doreen Elizabeth Winchester, 72, of Ames Hill Road passed awaypeacefully Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Doreen was born in Westfield, MA on September 17, 1943 the daughter of Dorr and Mary (Dugas) Hudson. She was raised and educated in Hinsdale and Brattleboro and was a graduate of Glen Cove, ME Christian Academy. With her husband she owned and operated Rod's Towing & Repair in Putney which they established in 1966. Doreen also taught kindergarten and first grade at the former Christian Heritage School in Brattleboro. Later she operated Grandma's Home School based in her home in West Brattleboro. Steadfast in her daily walk of faith she was a member of Grace Community Evangelical Church in Spofford. Of her pastimes and interests, she was fascinated with the history and landscape of Newport, R.I. and enjoyed visits to Newport and its mansions. She held membership in the Newport, R.I. Preservation Society. Additionally she loved to read, knit, work in her gardens and spend time with her family. On June 5, 1962 at West Brattleboro Baptist Church she was married to Rodney R. Winchester who survives. Besides her faithful and devoted husband of 53 years she leaves two daughters, Vicky Durfey and husband Robert and Valli Hecht and her partner Roy Haskins of West Brattleboro, three sons, Robert Winchester and wife Jade, Derek Winchester and wife Peggy all of West Brattleboro and Gregory Winchester and wife Julie of Putney, two sisters, Alberta Colburn of N. Hinsdale and Loretta Martin of Brattleboro, and one brother, Cressy Hudson of Brattleboro. Additionally she is survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several cousins. FUNERAL SERVICE: Funeral services in celebration of her life will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 P.M. at Grace Community Evangelical Free Church 49 Old Swanzey Road in Spofford with Pastor Lew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 P.M.
