1935 - 2015 STAMFORD, VT. Doris L. (Burdick) Benson 79, of Main Rd., died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. She was born in Florida, MA on July 14, 1935 a daughter of the late Lyman and Doris (Mogul) Burdick. She attended schools in Florida, MA and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams. She was employed at the Whitcomb Summit and later at Heartwellville Lodge. But for most of her life she was Certified Nursing Assistant at Sweetbrook Nursing Home and personal home care provider for several families. She was an active member of the Stamford Community Church where she was a member of the mission committee. She was a longtime member of the Masonic Easter Stars and volunteered at many charity fundraisers in support of the Shriners and their hospitals. Doris participated in many of the Shriners parades as a clown. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and camping and traveling with her late husband, Adelbert "Joe" Adney Benson whom she married October 16, 1954. He died September 8, 2007. Survivors include her son, Michael Benson of Columbia, Missouri. Five grandchildren; Billy Joe Piantoni, Joshua Piantoni, Sarah Hamm, Nathaniel and Michaela Benson and 11 great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Phyllis Porter of Burlington, MA and Linda Pettigrew of Wellesley, MA. Two brothers Glenn Burdick of Florida, MA and Edward Burdick of North Adams. She was predeceased by daughter, Terry Jo Piantoni who died in 1988 and two sisters and three brothers; Anita Kuczynski, Beatrice Bishop, Lyman Burdick, Clayton Burdick and Mearl Burdick. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services to celebrate the Life of Doris (Burdick) Benson will take place Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stamford Community Church in Stamford, Vt. A reception will follow at the church hall. Burial will take place in the Millard Cemetery in the spring.
