Edward F. Nelson

1933 - 2016 NEWFANE- Edward Frank Nelson, 83, of Newfane passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 13, 2016 at Grace Cottage Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Nelson was born in Astoria, New York on March 26, 1933, the son of Frank and Edith Sigler Nelson. He was a graduate of Pace University where he received his degree in accounting, living in Hauppauge and Smithtown, NY until 1999. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge from active service. In 1999, he retired as Vice President/Compliance Director with the New York Stock Exchange following 38 years of faithful and dedicated service at which time he made Newfane his permanent home with his wife, Betty Ann Nelson. Active civically, he served on the Development & Review Board for the town of Newfane, was a member of the West River Valley Lions Club and a member of the Newfane Congregational Church where he served as trustee and member of the Church's finance committee. Besides his beloved wife of 41 years he leaves his son, Gregory Nelson of Albuquerque, NM, step-sons Steven Keene of Alvin, TX and Gary Keene of Spring, TX, two daughters, Beth Ann Graf of Ronkonkoma, NY and Amy Dettling of Smithtown, NY, 12 grandchildren and one sister, Dolores Goodman of CA and his nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by one step-son, Stuart Keene, who passed away in December of 2015. Edward had a passion for football, working in his gardens, enjoying his family and friends and relating the many experiences he had over the years through storytelling. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service in celebration of his life will be Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 A.M. at the Newfane Congregational Church with a reception to follow. Burial of his cremated remains will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Memorial contributions in Edward F.
