Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Lawlor

1932 - 2015 ROCKINGHAM, VT Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Stone) Lawlor, of Rockingham, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Springfield, Vt., at the age of 83. She was born on Jan. 22, 1932 in Winchendon, Mass. to John Stone and Marion (Corey) Wheeler Stone. Betty attended schools in Keene, N.H., graduating from Keene High School in 1950. She later earned her degree from the Community College of Vermont. On Oct. 6, 1950 she married John G. "Jerry" Lawlor, Jr. in Bellows Falls, Vt. Betty was employed by The Springfield Times Reporter, and later the Brattleboro Reformer as a reporter. After enjoying many years of working with students in the Speech and Language Department, traveling to all of the schools in the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union, she later enjoyed her position as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Betty loved spending time with her dogs throughout the years. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, snowmobiling, and singing in the Bellows Falls Community Choir. She and Jerry loved to vacation on the Maine coast with their family every year, and visited many lighthouses. She also enjoyed participating each year in the Bellows Falls Alumni Parade with Jerry and his Class of 1949. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellows Falls, where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Friendship Club. Betty was predeceased by her husband Jerry on March 18, 2014; a son, Steven Corey Lawlor; two grandsons, John Lawlor, IV and Eric Lawlor; her parents; and siblings, Otis Wheeler, Francis Wheeler, Lawrence Wheeler, Gerald Stone, Forrest Stone, Edith Stone, Louise Capron, and Freda Ellinwood. She is survived by her children, John G. Lawlor, III, and wife, Myra, Donna J. Cenate and husband, John, Susan C. Lawlor, Brian D. Lawlor, and Jeffrey M. Lawlor; her grandchildren, John Cenate, Jr., Jennifer Leonard, Jessica Fellows, Jillian Cenate, Stephanie Lawlor, Bridgette Lawlor, Adam Lawlor, Ashley Lawlor, Kristen Lawlor, Chad Lawlor, Emily Vaccaro; and fifteen great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held at FENTON AND HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME in Bellows Falls on Friday Feb. 27 from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the First Baptist Church at 9 Church Street in Bellows Falls. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
