1925 - 2016 WESTMINSTER, VT Ella Marguerite Ada (Gilman) LeFevre, a beloved resident of Westminster, passed away at Springfield Health and Rehab Center on March 20, 2016 following a brief illness. Ella was born April 22, 1925, the eldest child of Simon Ervin and Carolyn (Harrison) Gilman, of Shrewsbury Vermont. Ella attended local schools and graduated from the Rutland High School a member of the Class of 1943. She went on to attend the Fitchburg Business College in Fitchburg Massachusetts from 1944-1945, before returning to Rutland to work as a bookkeeper at Freeman Haskell Jewelers. On April 18, 1953, Ella married the love of her life, Gerald Richard LeFevre. They lived in Rutland for four years before moving to Westminster when he got transferred to the Rockingham Barracks of the Vermont State Police. Over the course of her life, Ella was very active in the local community, from serving as a 4H leader for over 25 years, to serving as a member of the local Women's Club and Christmas Club, as well as in the St. Charles Parish, as a long time catechism teacher. She also held many elected offices in the Town of Westminster over the years. Ella worked for the Town of Westminster for 32 years, starting as assistant treasurer and moving up to the position of Town Treasurer before her retirement in 1996. She was also the treasurer for LeFevre Ambulance Service, a business that she and Jerry started after his retirement from the state police in 1983. At the ambulance service she was a longtime dispatcher, and for a short time she was even a certified first responder. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother John Gilman, and her husband, Jerry, who died in 2011. Ella is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Gilman; her three children, Joan Bort, Mary LeFevre, and Thomas LeFevre, his wife, Ellen Lederman; five grandchildren, Thomas Collier, Jennifer Washburn, her husband Phillip Washburn, Amanda LeFevre, Katherine Bort, and Emma LeFevre; and six great grandchildren, Kaylee and Brooke Washburn, Adam Collier, Mia Washburn, Ethan Collier, and Kassidy Fish. Ella was a wonderful mother, an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her. FUNERAL SERVICE: There will be a wake held at Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls VT on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Services will be held at St. Charles Church on Thursday March 24, 2016 at 11:00AM, with a burial service to follow in the New Westminster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Kurn Hattin Homes, P.O. Box 127, Westminster VT.
